sustainability discussion on operating room packaging

Below the introduction to a discussion on LinkedIn on sustainability in the medical industry, quoting Dr. Henk Eijer:

“The MedTech industry is on its way to sell us separately packed plates, screws and implants. Can you imagine this happening to a carpenter or in the do it yourself shop?

There is no real need, it is bothersome to everybody in the hospital and the operating room, even to the supplier. It makes the system more expensive, slow and costlier, there is more waste, and it will make any operation last longer, which increases the chance of complications.

There is no need for all these annoying rules made by people who have never seen an operating room from the inside.”
